Andrew Nickson and Roy Maheshe

I was teaching last week (November 2011) at the United Nations Staff College in Turin, Italy. One of the participants on the course was Roy Maheshe, a Congolese national who is a Civil Affairs Officer in the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). He mentioned that he was from Goma so I asked if he had known Pat. To my surprise, his eyes lit up and he replied, "Not only do I know her, but she taught my team some years ago when I worked for Oxfam and headed an emergency health team that had to be evacuated to Rwanda". He did not know the sad news that she had died. This is just another example of the high regard in which Pat is remembered by those who knew her.

Andrew
